Quince Dining is our new approach to smart, seasonal dining at the Healesville Hotel.
And why Quince? Apart from the lovely sounding name the Quince epitomises seasonality & integrity ... the golden, knobbly oversized pear-shaped fruit is a true, heirloom variety unchanged since ancient times. A bowl of just picked quinces will stop you in your tracks while you seek out the source of its the heady, intoxicating perfume. The quince is inedible in its just-picked state but with a little inspiration, time & know-how is transformed into something amazing and unique.
Quince Dining embraces with a classical style and warm ambience - soaring pressed metal ceilings, crisp white linen, french wicker chairs and classic dark wood bentwoods. The room welcomes with an abundance of flowers & fresh produce from local farms & gardens and at night the room twinkles under candle light, in winter the open fires roar, in summer the dining-room spills to the courtyard with clothed tables & lamplight.
Each week our team of Chefs led by Tim Foster and Clinton Camilleri create a truly seasonal menu inspired by what is in our kitchen garden, working with local farmers & growers and quality suppliers we source through our Kitchen & Butcher Shop. We love the backyard growers who deliver eggs, figs, berries & lemons to the kitchen door. Our late summer and autumn menus feature so much amazing produce from a great harvest .... eggplants, onions, amazing tomatoes, herbs, sweet corn, zucchinis, beans & salad from Harvest Farm as well as fresh cheeses from the local dairy. It is also an incredible time in the valley as vintage is in full swing and the orchards are flush with apples & pears, summer berries & the last of the stone fruit.
We are also fortunate enough to have our very own butcher, at K&B we age beef for the dining-room menu - look out for the amazing club steak, thick & juicy aged and cooked on the bone. Local lambs from Yeringberg also feature, they are boned, rolled as well as made into sausages.
Our General Manager Camm Whiteoak, who has made the tree change from bustling inner city restaurants to our lush Yarra Valley. Camm is here to lead our front of house service team and make sure that all the little details are there to make your experience super special.
Our Sommelier, Ewan Proctor, is excited by the challenge of working with The Healesville Hotel Winelist. We have continued to win many awards and holds the Hall of Fame Award from Gourmet Traveller magazine for the Best Pub Restaurant Winelist in Australia. Whether by the glass, french bubbles, a cheeky little pinot gris or splashing out on one of the iconic local wines from Yeringberg or Mount Mary - there is a great drink or a wine journey to be had whatever level your passion and interest in wine.
The Wine List is extensive with offerings from the Valley and beyond. Of course given our location there are many Yarra Valley wines with some interesting back vintages, as well as bench mark wines from other Australian regions and around the world.
